Parkes Shire Council Cultural Awards
26 January 2008
Sponsored by the Central West Credit Union

For the first time ever, Cultural Awards featured at this year's Parkes Shire Council Australia Day awards ceremony in Cooke Park, Parkes. The awards were in three sections - student, adult and group.
The Central West Astronomical Society nominated the "David Malin Awards" for the group section. Against a strong field of seven other nominations, the CWAS "David Malin Awards" won the inaugural award. The prize included a cheque for $1,000, which the society will use to promote the DMA's to an even wider audience throughout Australia.
CWAS Vice-President, Laurie Crowley, and Treasurer, John Sarkissian, accepted the
award certificate and medallion on behalf of the Central West Astronomical Society.
General Manager of the Central West Credit Union, Brett Hartin, is pictured with the three inaugural Cultural Award recipients
L-R: John Sarkissian (CWAS "David Malin Awards"), Lyn Townsend (adult section) and Maddison Ehsman (student winner).
This was a great honour for the CWAS and a testament to the Society's ongoing committment to promoting amateur astronomy in the Central West.

Congratulations to all the members of the CWAS.
