For the first time ever, Cultural Awards featured at this year's Parkes Shire Council Australia Day awards ceremony in Cooke Park, Parkes. The awards were in three sections - student, adult and group.

| The Central West Astronomical Society nominated the "David Malin Awards" for the group section. Against a strong field of seven other nominations, the CWAS "David Malin Awards" won the inaugural award. The prize included a cheque for $1,000, which the society will use to promote the DMA's to an even wider audience throughout Australia. | ||||||||||
